SOUTHEND'S reggae crowd are in for a massive treat next Saturday, when Misty in Roots comes to Chinnerys.

It's the first time this band will have played in the area for 25 years.

Supporting them, are Pama International and local ska and reggae favourite’s, the Goldmaster Allstars.

Misty in Roots formed in the Seventies, championing many causes within that period of political unrest, namely the Rock Against Racism campaign, which came out of the fight-back from the punk and reggae community who had united.

Misty in Roots first album was recorded in 1979 - Live at the counter Eurovision - still considered one of the best live reggae albums of all time.

Several have followed including Wise and Foolish, Earth, Musi-O-Tunya and Forward.

One man who is particularly excited to have the band visiting and to be supporting them, is front man of the Goldmaster Allstars, Malcolm Goldmaster. He said: "I have admired Misty for many years and found them to be a big influence on myself and also the British reggae scene.

"After 25 years of their absence in Southend, it is long overdue that they should return!

"The last time Misty in Roots performed was at the Cliffs Pavilion. With support from the Mighty Jah Shaka it was one of the most memorable nights in Southend Reggae history."

It's a busy year ahead for the Allstars including some European shows , Glastonbury 2016 , The Global Rhythm Festival and Boomtown Fair.

Malcolm added: "Returning to the stage after a six year absence will be Pama International.

Back in 2006, Pama where the first band to be signed by Trojan records for over 30 years. This resulted in two great albums, The Trojan sessions, which had many famous guests on it, including Rico Rodriguez , Dennis Alcapone , Dawn Penn , Derrick Morgan and Dave and Ansel Collins.

"In 2008 the band released a follow up album on Rockers revolt Records - Love filled dub album - and that was their last album to date, as they disbanded shortly after that due to other work commitments. But now they are back with a complete new line up!"

Doors open at 7pm with the first band on at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £16 available from Five Records , PMT, Chinnerys' main bar or seetickets.com
