A FUNDRAISING campaign has been launched to help pay for the funeral of a young dad who died in a head-on crash at an accident blackspot.

Kieron Joslin, 26, was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in a critical condition after the crash in South Hill, Langdon Hills.

His green Fiat Punto and a white Renault Kangoo van, belonging to Langdon Hills-based Acorn Window Services, were travelling in opposite directions when the horror smash happened at about 4.25pm on Wednesday.

The dad-of-one died later that night after being taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head, chest and pelvis.

Following his death, Kieron's family launched a fundraising page to pay for his funeral.

They also want to raise cash to support his young child.

In a statement on the online fundraising page, his cousin Carla Harrald said: "On Wednesday, May 18 we tragically lost our cousin Kieron.

"He was a father, son, brother, nephew and uncle and has been taken from us far too young.

"He has left a huge hole where he should be.

"We have decided to set up this page as Kieron touched so many lives and we would like to make the financial side of this tragedy that bit easier for the family for the funeral and the remainder to go for his young child."

In less than 24 hours, more than 30 people have donated more than £900.

His family hope to raise £1,500 in total.

Tributes for Kieron flooded into the fundraising page, with one mourned writing: "Sleep tight Kieron, you're going to be missed so much. God bless."

Another added: "Always in our thoughts and our hearts. Really going to miss you!"

Thurrock Council, responsible for the stretch of road, told the Echo the speed limit on South Hill will be slashed from 60mph to 50mph later this year in the wake of a string of serious crashes.

Over the past five years seven crashes have been reported on the same bend in the road as Wednesday’s fatal collision.

A Thurrock Council spokesman said the road will be resurfaced and replacement signs will be installed as part of an accident reduction scheme.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash.
