A DETERMINED mum is trying to track down a mystery lifesaver who stopped her three-year-old son from choking to death.

Bentley Kirby accidentally swallowed a 2p coin during a family day out on Canvey on bank holiday Monday.

A quick thinking stranger ran to his rescue as he began choking inside Parkins Palladium, in Eastern Esplanade.

She hit his back between his shoulder blades and put two fingers down Bentley's throat, forcing the coin out.

Mum Jade Garner, of Connaught Way, Billericay, rushed Bentley off to the toilet to clear him up.

By the time she returned to the arcade the woman who saved her son's life had disappeared.

She wants to be reunited with her so she can properly thank her.

The 29-year-old dog groomer said: "It all just happened in a blur and it was only when I stopped to think that I realise just how close he could have been to dying.

“He wasn’t in another part of the arcade, he was by my side but I just hadn’t seen him holding the coin. I turned away and then saw him choking and shouted for help.

“A lady with blonde hair saved him, she put her fingers down his throat and has sick all over her.

"I took Bentley to the toilet to clean him up, and by the time we got back, she had gone

“I felt I never had the chance to thank her properly.”

Seven-year-old brother Billy said Bentley had a lucky escape.

He said: “How many people have you seen that have survived something like that? He’s very lucky and I hope he doesn’t do it again.”

The incident happened at about 4.30pm

The mystery lifesaver has been praised for her quick thinking actions.

Mick Allwood, co ordinator of the Canvey First Responders, believes it was the backslaps which saved Bentley's life and helped him to bring the coin in.

He said: “The backslaps are a very important part of the process which removes the foreign body from the throat.

“It’s quite a technical thing actually, to get it right you have use the heel part of the hand and perform it in an upward direction.

“It’s not something that is very easy to do.”

Miss Garner has asked the woman who saved her son to email her at jadekirby87@gmail.com.
