WICKFORD could get a brand new swimming pool under the latest proposals as part of the town's £100million masterplan.
Basildon Council has revealed it is in talks with a developer over a complete rebuild, with new pool, of the existing one in Market Avenue. Earlier plans had been to simply construct a new building around the existing pool.
The development will also include a fitness suite, library and primary care trust health centre. A flats development will take place on the site of the neighbouring Willow Court sheltered housing scheme.
Nearly 200 flats are also being built in the Riverside Homes development at Lower Southend Road.
Wickford Action Group is campaigning against developing up to 600 new homes in the town and the council has promised more consultation - but not yet.
