A ROCK band will fight for the chance to perform in the House of Commons after making it through to the final of a music competition.

Sun Arcana is one of just three acts to make it through to the final round of Rock the House, which sees MPs act as sponsors for talented musicians from their constituencies.

The band, which has the backing of Tory Mark Francois, is made up of lead singer Tom Harper-Ward, 20, from Rayleigh, and drummer Ryan Daniels, 22, and guitarist Harry Acreman, 20, both from Benfleet, and bassist Jules Wildblood, from Manchester.

Sun Arcana have grown in popularity after being founded just over a year ago, being taken up by BBC Introducing and video site Vevo.

Band manager Matt Harper-Ward, 47, from Rayleigh, said he is extremely proud of how far the group has come.

He said: “I entered them six months ago on a recommendation from Mark Francois. I am absolutely glad that we entered. Loads of people applied.

“They've now got it down to a number of bands they are happy to perform in the Commons. We wouldn’t normally enter Battle of the Band competitions but we entered because of the experience and the exposure of performing in the House of Commons.

“If they win they will be over the moon. I would be really proud of them all. They all work so well together and have become a really tight band.”

Sun Arcana have released four singles, with their biggest getting around 115,000 views on YouTube.

The manager added: “It’s definitely a different place to perform. I think it will be quite an imposing environment with lots of politicians and celebrities involved in the music industry and the esteemed audience will be extremely good.

“They don’t suffer any stage nerves at all. All four can be described as being very modest and humble in their approach to music and it comes across.

“They are all best of friends and their dream would be to make enough money to further their music careers.

“They have come a long way in only a year. We are not so big on the local scene but we are really hoping to be.”

The competition final takes place on Monday from 1pm at The Bedford, London where the winner will be announced.

Mr Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, said he is delighted to have a band from his constituency in the final and is proudly supporting them.

He said: “I wish them all good luck. I’m proud that we have a band form my constituency that has reached the final of the competition. It has been going on for several years now.

“I have given them my very best wishes. I have told them that if they win I will be there at parliament to meet them. I am very happy to sponsor them.”

Sun Arcana will battle it out against Concrete Caverns, sponsored by St Albans MP Anne Main, and Chasing Shadows, backed by Welsh MP James Davies.

The winning band in the over 19s category will perform in Parliament on Monday, July 4.

Rock The House was launched to raise awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights.

Musicians enter their original material to their MP, who nominates one entrant per competition category.

A panel of industry executives preside over choosing the finalists and winners.

The Reaper, sponsored by prime minister David Cameron, have been named as winner of the under 19s competition.
