THE Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for the River Crouch after a night of heavy rain.
The river is at its peak near Crays Hill, with the warning covering the area from Noak Bridge to Runwell, including Wickford.
The warning said: "We are experiencing high river levels due to the band of thunderstorms followed by heavy rainfall.
"The peak of the river is now near Crays Hill. River levels are likely to continue to rise for the next couple of hours in the Wickford area."
Motorists have reported numerous incidents of flooded roads in the Wickford and Basildon areas this morning.

Further heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon. A Met Office severe weather warning for rain remains in force until 6pm today.

The Essex Traffic Control Centre has reported flooding on the London-bound carriageway of the A127 near the Fortune of War junction.
