FOUR daring men are taking on Mount Kilamanjaro in aid of a 14-year-old diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer.

In April, Finlay Jefferson, of Leigh, was diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of liver cancer.

It affects 200 people every year, in the whole world.

This means that there is only a one in 7.4 billion chance of contracting it and there is currently no known cure.

His step brother, Jake Smith, and Jack’s dad John Smith, 51, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in February along with John’s friend Dean Fox, 55, and his son Joe, 21.

Jake, 24, said: “Finlay is keeping positive.

“My dad and Dean had been talking about climbing Kilimanjaro and when Finlay was diagnosed, it seemed right to combine the fundraising with the challenge.”

A fundraising page set up on Monday has already raised more than £2,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research UK.

The names of everyone who donates will be added to a banner which will be put up at the top of Kilimanjaro.

“When I told Finlay what we were doing, he said he didn’t think I would make it,” Jake added.

“That has given me some inspiration.

“I am confident we will exceed £20,000 as well.”

His family has already arranged for Piers Morgan to visit Finlay, who is a fan of the TV personality, in hospital and looking to get Jeremy Kyle and Charlie Sheen to visit him as well.

Finlay is currently being cared for at Euston Hospital in London.
