A GROUP of children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster have enjoyed a fun-filled visit at ?Billericay? Fire Station.

More than 20 young people who are receiving support from the Billericay and South Essex Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline have visited Billericay firefighters every year since 2012.

The recent trip saw children from Ukraine use powerful hoses, tour the fire station and enjoy cutting equipment and breathing apparatus suit demonstrations.

The Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline supports children and families affected by the 1986 nuclear disaster.

Every summer the charity provides four-week long recuperative holidays in the UK.

Leading firefighter Dave Archer, who helped organise the visit, said: “Our special relationship with the charity is cherished by both the children and our firefighters.

“The young people visit various landmarks and attractions across the country and I’ve been told Billericay Fire Station is one of their favourites.

“I would like to thank Firefighters Rob May and Elliot McCartney for their enthusiasm and professionalism during the event.

"I look forward to organising next year’s visit.”
