THURROCK Council has cleared a Grays care home of safeguarding malpractice following an investigation.

Thurrock Council safeguarding team launched the investigation into Bluebell Care Home, on Stanley Road, after residents claimed a 96-year-old lady was left with a broken leg unattended for five days.

Relatives of the resident, who cannot be named for legal reasons, launched an official complaint to the council after they said the break had not been spotted for five days following an accident.

But the council found on investigation that the care home had acted correctly by calling in her doctor for X-rays and inspections and arranging suitable care.

The only note for improvement provided by the team was that “communication issues” could be improved.

The care home was previously found by CQC inspectors to be failing, but a subsequent inspection in 2011 found “significant improvements” had been made.

In their last inspection check-up in September 2014, the CQC gave Bluebell Court Care Home a rating of “good.”

A spokesman for Thurrock Council said: “After Thurrock Council received a safeguarding alert the Adults Safeguarding Team investigated.

“The concerns raised in the alert were unfounded however, it was commented that communication could have been improved.

“We are working with Bluebell to improve the process going forward.”

A spokesman for Thurrock CCG also said they had “no concerns” about the home.

A spokesman for the home said they were “pleased” with the news but “it was what they were expecting.”
