A MOTORCYCLE test examiner was left with a broken arm after she was struck by a car in a hit-and-run.

Angela Smith, who lives in York Road, Rayleigh was riding her white BMW F800GT motorcycle along Cranes Farm Road, Basildon, when she was hit by a maroon-coloured car.

The impact of the crash caused her motorcycle to ride into railings, shortly before 1.50pm on Thursday, August 18.

She suffered a broken forearm and was taken to Basildon Hospital in an ambulance.

Essex Police are now trying to search for the car, which was travelling towards the junction with Eastmayne and failed to stop.

Ms Smith, 46, said: “I was following my test candidate and we came down near the entrance to Eastmayne, following signs to Wickford.

“We were in the designated left hand lane and as we were approaching the junction, I got clipped from the right hand side. I think the car was moving over and didn’t see me.

“It broke my arm. The pain was totally excruciating.

“Then my other arm bashed into every single railing. I radioed my candidate and I told him to get my phone out and call for an ambulance.”

At the hospital, paramedics manipulated Ms Smith’s bone into the right position and set her arm in a cast.

She will be off work for about six to eight weeks.

She urged motorists to keep an eye out for motorcyclists, especially when changing lanes.

She said: “I don’t think people look enough - they look one and then just move over.

“Please check and check again, just in case, and check the blind spot areas.”

Investigating officer PC Mark Weeble, of Chigwell Roads Policing Unit, is appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened shortly before 1.50pm last Thursday.

He said: “The victim is a motorcycle instructor who was following a student taking a test at the time.

“She did not see the exact make or model of the car, but it is believed to be a Honda or similar.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened or the vehicle travelling along Cranes Farm Road.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Weeble on Essex Police 101.
