A PENSIONER was brutally beaten and kicked by a dog walker as he lay unconscious on the ground.

The man, aged in his 70s, was attacked in Magnolia Park, Hawkwell, after getting into an argument with a man who was walking a Rottweiler.

The thug became aggressive and verbally abusive before punching the man, causing him to fall to the ground.

He continued to punch and kick his victim until he who lost consciousness.

Passers-by eventually came to the man’s rescue at about 11.15am on Sunday, August 21.

The victim had also been walking his dog in the park, off Magnolia Road.

Hawkwell Parish Council chairman Vic Leach said the vilage was “in shock” following the assault.

He said: “This sort of incident is so rare, I’m delighted to say, so it has probably come as more of a shock because it is so unusual.

“People come to Magnolia Park because it’s a beautiful park and it really is one on the best in the Rochford district for its mixed facilities.

“We are confident that it’s be - ing investigated and that police will eventually find the culprit.

“One thing that people might not fully appreciate is Magnolia Park is very much a community facility.

“I am not surprised that people came to this guy’s aid. It’s what you would expect of our residents.

“I would implore anybody with any information to come forward.”

The attacker is described as white, in his 40s or 50s, 6ft, of stocky build, with light brown receding hair.
