CANVEY Island came from behind as they earned a draw with Harlow Town.

The Gulls were looking for a third straight win in the league after an excellent result at Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday and they had the better of the opening exchanges.

Joey May’s delivery was causing chaos once again, with Harlow goalkeeper David Hughes forced into an early save before it was Conor Gough called into action.

The Gulls goalkeeper did superbly to keep out Fabion Simms and then Alex Read as Harlow turned the screw.

But Simms was to open the scoring on 22 minutes, finishing calmly past Gough.

Ryan O’Rawe sent a header wide of the post as Canvey looked for a way back into the match, but it was a half of frustration for the hosts.

Into the second-half, Martin Tuohy almost drew Canvey level but his strike was excellently turned aside by the athletic Hughes.

The second-half followed the same pattern as Canvey struggled to make a breakthrough, although their patience was rewarded.

With 15 minutes remaining a fine dinked pass from Lee O’Leary was picked up by George Sykes and he headed past Hughes.

Luis Morrison was shown a second yellow card in the closing exchanges but Canvey held on for a point.

Billericay Town were edged out by a late goal at Tonbridge Angels as they lost a fourth match on the trot.

Town had a number of chances to take the lead in the first-half, with Junior Luke and Josh Oyinsan causing problems in forward areas.

Angels had former Town man George Beavan at the heart of their defence and he had an assured game at centre-half, keeping Ricky Sappleton quiet.

The only goal of the piece came with just 12 minutes remaining, as Nathan Elder climbed highest to head beyond Jack Giddens impressively.
