A DAUGHTER is heartbroken after burglars trashed her home and stole her late mother’s jewellery.

Lisa Wakefield-Carr’s husband returned to his farm in Maltings Road, Battlesbridge, at about 5pm to find his lounge window had been tampered with and the inside of his house had been turned upside down.

Raiders smashed the burglar alarm and stole a haul of jewellery belonging to Mrs Wakefield-Carr.

Many of the items, including rings, watches and necklaces, had been given to her by her mother Elizabeth, who died from cancer two years ago.

Roger Carr, 55, a house husband, said: “The burglars rifled through everything.

“The place was ransacked, everything was dumped all over the floor. It was like they were going crazy searching for something.

“They hit the jackpot with my wife’s jewellery - we lost a hell of a lot.

“It’s been really hard for my wife. It’s almost like she has been bereaved again, she is heartbroken.

“She had a really close bond with her mum and this has really torn her apart.

“It’s the thought that the jewellery isn’t going to be worn again, it’s just going to be scrapped.”

The stolen jewellery included a black-faced watch and a rare diamond and sapphire ring.

The burglary took place on Tuesday, August 16.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a burglary at a farm in Maltings Road in Battlesbridge.

“Someone forced their way into the property through a window sometime between 9am and 5.30pm on Tuesday, August 16.

“A messy search was conducted and an alarm was ripped off the wall. Jewellery was taken.
