A MAN and a women were rushed to hospital after a crash.

Emergency services including the fire service and air ambulance rushed to the scene in Runwell Road, Wickford last night at about 7pm.

Two cars crashed in the road and the road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Two fire crews from Rayleigh Weir fire station were called to the crash to assist the ambulance and air ambulance service and cut the women free from a car.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance service said: "We received a call at 6.56pm.

"We sent two ambulance crews, an ambulance officer, and an air ambulance from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"At the scene a man believed to be in his 20s was treated for abdomen and pelvic injuries before being taken to The Royal London Hospital via land for further care.

"A woman believed to be in her 70s was also treated at the scene, she had what is believed to be minor injuries before being taken via land to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further treatement."
