A BURNT-OUT motorbike was found dumped in a field.

Dog walkers discovered the bike - believed to have been stolen and dumped - off Smallgains Avenue, Canvey, yesterday morning.

Islanders told how they woke to the sounds of loud bangs and revving engines the night before.

Peter Greig, Canvey Island Independent Party councillor for Winter Garden, was one on the first people to come across the bike - which has been destroyed.

He said “Well I can only assume that someone stole this bike, drove it around for a bit and then dumped it in a field and set fire to it.

“Unfortunately someone has lost their bike.”

It comes jus two months after two cars were found burnt-out on the approach road to Canvey Heights Country Park, off Creek Road.

Tom Skipp, councillor responsible for the environment, said Castle Point Council is determined to take action against people committing antisocial behaviour on the island.

He added: “Not only is this very dangerous to people and animals but it is also harmful to the environment.

“The council takes antisocial behaviour seriously and we are doing everything that we can to deal with issues like this.”

Essex Police and the Essex Fire Service did not attend the incident. The discovery of the bike had not been reported as of Sunday evening.
