A WHOLE school had fun dressing up a characters from books to celebrate famous authors.
Pupils in Years 3 to 6 at West Leigh Junior School, Ronald Hill Grove, Leigh, learnt about authors or books which have been celebrating an anniversary during a day of fun activities.
Year 3 learnt about Alice in Wonderland, which recently celebrated 150 years, Year 4 pupils explored the world of Beatrix Potter, which has also celebrated 150 years, Year 5 delved into Roald Dahl’s characters to mark the author’s 100th birthday and Year 6 celebrated 400 years of Shakespeare.
As well as coming dressed as characters associated with their topic, the children also took part in activities in their classrooms, including Year 6 pupils making stages out of shoeboxes for Twelfth Night and Year 3 children looking at the beautiful artwork in the Alice in Wonderland books.
English lead teacher Kathy O’Donnell said all the children - and staff - had fun dressing up.
She added: “It was fantastic.
“We have had a lot of Oompa Loompas and white rabbits running around the school.
“It has been really good fun and the children enjoyed it.
“We now have a book sale at the school which always proves popular.”
