IT was a crazy week for one Basildon man who was the subject of an impressive prank by his loving wife Dawn.

Richard Webster, a car salesman at J Toomey Motors in Basildon, is a huge Tottenham Hotspur fan so was blown away when Spurs and England superstar Glenn Hoddle came and stood behind him in the queue at a Basildon Subway store.

After shaking his hand and taking a quick selfie, Richard even bought the footballing legend lunch and suggested he try the spicy Italian sub.

Hoddle left with his sandwich and, despite being star-struck, Richard sat down to have lunch with his wife and thought nothing more of it.

But later that week, Richard was out golfing with his wife at the Woolston Manor golf club when yet again, he bumped into Mr Hoddle who coincidentally was also out at the driving range.

In complete disbelief, Richard shook his hand again and took the opportunity to show off his golfing skills before his wife grabbed the selfie this time and the former England manager went on his way.

Little did Richard know, but he was actually the subject of an elaborate prank organised by his wife with the help of comedian Michael McIntyre.

The stunt formed part of McIntyre’s new TV show on BBC1 and Michael had arranged for Hoddle to “accidentally” bump into Richard throughout the week before finally revealing the ruse on his show on Saturday night.

The star duo completed the prank by surprising Richard in an Italian restaurant before revealing the whole thing had been a prank set up by his wife.

A stunned Richard then had the pleasure of enjoying the rest of McIntyre’s show from a private box shared only with Hoddle himself.

Tweeting after the show aired, a delighted Richard said: “Thank you Mrs Webster, Team McIntyre and the Legend.

“It was an experience I will never forget.”
