Southend council are teaming up with a local running group to encourage women and girls to take running in the new year.

With Christmas fast approaching, now is the time to prepare for 2017 and sign up for the next Running Sisters course.

This friendly weekly event is for women aged 16 and above and aimed specifically at beginner runners who want to get fit in a supportive environment with like-minded people.

The six week course delivered by female coaches from a local club costs just £16 and begins on Monday February 20 until Monday May 27.

The hour-long sessions start at 9:30 and take place in scenic Chalkwell Park, Chalkwell Avenue.

Ann Holland, councillor responsible for Culture, Tourism and the Economy said: “These beginner sessions are very popular and a great way to encourage women who take little or no exercise to get fitter and to boost their health and wellbeing.

“We are continuing to support Southend-on-Sea’s Legacy and due to the Running Sisters popularity we urge ladies to book their place as spaces are limited.”
