A man has been reported for drink-driving following a crash on the A128 that involved three vehicles.

The crash took place between the A127 and the A13 and meant the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the scene.

PC Mike Bignell tweeted a photo of the scene that showed two cars completely destroyed by the collision, adding that "one driver has blown double the drink drive limit!"

PC Bignell went on to explain that the man was not arrested at the scene because he required medical treatment and was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called at 4.24pm yesterday to a road traffic collision on the A128 at Brentwood.

"A rapid response vehicle, two ambulance crews, ambulance officer and response car from Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended.

"A man, believed to be in his 50s, was trapped and had chest and back pains and a woman had back and neck pain.

"Both were taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

Traffic Officer Colin Shead retweeted PC Bignell's photo adding: "What will it take to make people listen? Don't drink and drive."

Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man had been reported for drink-driving and that police were awaiting blood test results before further action was taken.
