AVIATION enthusiasts celebrated the 60th anniversary of a private group.

Members, their family and friends celebrated the anniversary of the Royal Aeronautical Society Southend branch with a lunch at La Romantica restaurant, in Rayleigh.

Members consist of current and retired professionals including pilots, aviation engineers, air traffic controllers from both civilian and military backgrounds and non professionals who are interested in aviation.

The Southend branch was founded at Southend Airport in January 1957 by the late Sir Freddie Laker, who was the first chairman of the branch.

The Southend branch also supports the Royal Aeronautical Society’s outreach programme for schools with the help of Southend Airport, offering aviation-themed educational events for primary schools? highlighting career pathways.
