A CHILDREN’S hospice has been given strong feedback from the health care regulator, following a recent inspection.

Little Havens Children’s Hospice, in Daws Heath Road, which provides end of life care for eight children or young people aged 0 to 19, was rated as good in all areas by the Care Quality Commission.

The healthcare regulator, carried out a three day visit and paid tribute to the hospice.

In a report published yesterday, the CQC wrote: “Children and young people benefited from a staff team that were well trained to meet the complex and specialised needs of children and young people using the service.

“We saw from that children and young people were contented, comfortable and relaxed in the company of staff.

“Staff were seen to be warm and caring towards the children and young people they supported and were treated with compassion.

“Parents told us they had no concerns about their child’s or young person’s safety and were confident that the arrangements in place would keep their child safe.

“Staff were able to demonstrate a good understanding and knowledge of a child’s or young person’s specific support needs, so as to ensure their and others’ safety.”

Little Havens provides short respite breaks, up to one week long, including day stays; emergency stays to control a child’s symptoms caused by their illness or medication; and care for children at the end of their lives - for as long as is needed. Families can also stay for up to seven days, post bereavement.
