A SOUTHEND club has celebrated its second anniversary in its new home and is looking for new members.

Club 50+ was formed 40 years ago and took up residence at a site in Queensway, Southend before it was demolished.

The club spent two years looking for a new base before moving into a premises at the top of Queen’s Road, Southend, just off the High Street.

Tony Harrison, chairman of the club, said: “We need premises that are close to the town centre as we cater for several members who rely on public transport to get to us.

“Since our inception all that time ago we have opened our doors to all residents of Southend, aged 50 and above.

“We are a meeting point for anyone who wants to socialise in a warm and friendly environment. “

Members are hoping to raise the club’s profile.

Mr Harrison added: “We seem to be a well-kept secret in the area because many people don’t know where we are and what we are about.”

Those looking for a cup of tea, a bite to eat and a sociable chat will be welcomed to attend the club.

For those who prefer something more energetic there us a wide range of activities including keep fit, tai chi and yoga.

There are also various dance classes, indoor bowls, snooker, table tennis, whist or bridge.
