Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was found in a car.
Officers were contacted shortly after 2.50pm yesterday, with reports a black Jaguar X-Type Sport had been found in a small embankment off the A132 Burnham Road, South Woodham Ferrers.
Police and the ambulance service attended but sadly the driver and only occupant in the vehicle - a 66-year-old man from the Burnham area - was pronounced dead at the scene.
As part of the investigation, officers will be looking to establish when the collision occurred.
It is believed the car had been driving towards the South Woodham Ferrers area and left the road to the offside.
The road was closed until about 9.45pm while a forensic examination took place and the car was recovered.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw it leaving the road to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01245 240590 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
