A BIKER was rushed to hospital after a rush hour crash involving five vehicles.

The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, a land ambulance and police cars were called to the Chelmsford-bound A130, between the Rettendon Turnpike and Howe Green, shortly before 8.30am this morning.

The biker, aged in his thirties, suffered neck and back pain.

The pile-up sparked rush hour traffic chaos during the morning rush hour.

Sarah McCarthy tweeted at the time: “I’ve been sat on the A130 for 45 mins not moving. I’ve seen the helicopter, ambulance and police so far.”

Other motorists described being stuck in standstill traffic on the dual-carriageway for an hour-and-a-half as traffic quickly backed up.

Police temporarily closed the road, but it reopened a couple of hours later after the vehicles involved in the creash had been recovered.

Tim Jackson, from Rayleigh, tweeted: “Nasty motorbike accident on the A130. The road is closed and there are tailbacks all the way to the A127.”

Other eyewitnesses described frustrated drivers turning off their engines and getting out of their cars.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to a multi-vehicle crash on the A130 at 8.22am.

“One vehicle involved was a motorbike.

“We dispatched an ambulance and an air ambulance from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

“We treated the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, at the scene for neck and back pain.

“He was taken to Broomfield Hospital by land ambulance.

“He is not thought to be in a serious of life threatening condition.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We’ve been called to a crash involving five vehicles and a motorcycle on the A130 in Rettendon.  “Anyone with information should call 101.”
