A CLUB is celebrating after receiving a donation.

The Leigh Lions handed over £100 to Club 50-plus - a social club for the over 50s.

The club, which has been going for years, relies on donations to help support it and its services.

David Ward, the club’s treasurer, said: “We are very grateful to the Leigh Lions for their donation. They came and presented it to us and are also looking at other ways they can support us.

“All the money we receive is important to us - finances for all charities is a big issue right now.

“Our club already has around 200 members but we have capacity for 300 so are hoping to get more soon.

“We offer so many facilities five days a week. We are a social club geared towards those thinking about retirement or those who already have.

“If they have thought about trying something out we are a good place to start.”

The club offers daily activities from games and catch ups to fitness classes including Tai Chi and even belly dancing.

The club started 40 years ago, and is still going strong, with various dance classes, indoor bowls, snooker, table tennis and bridge on offer.
