A DOG named after a Disney character is looking for a new forever home.

Chip, a four-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, was named after the charming tea cup from the latest Beauty and the Beast film.

He is currently being cared for by staff at the Dogs Trust, in Nevendon Road, Wickford, takes in abandoned and neglected pooches.

In the film - which stars Harry Potter actress Emma Watson - the character of Chip is a boy under a spell.

Lisa Cooper, rehoming centre manager at the Dogs Trust, said: “Chip wants to break the spell and get out of the kennel and onto someone’s sofa.

“Much like the Disney character, charming Chip is a lovely lad with a sensitive side.

“He has a lot of love to give to his new family, and would like experienced dog owners that will allow him to settle in at his own pace.

“Treats are a great way to build a bond and become best friends with this chap. He also loves a good game of fetch.

“Chip can live with teenagers over the age of 14 and he could be left for one to four hours if built up slowly.

“He would need to be the only pet in the home and would ideally love a home where he could walk in a quiet area, so he can take in the scenery.”

The Dogs Trust is currently hosting events to help owners of pets with behavioural problems.

Dogs Trust Dog Schools have started nationwide, offering practical, expert training and advice based on the most recent advances in dog behaviour science.

It comes after the charity received nearly 9,000 calls from owners looking to rehome their dogs due to behavioural problems.

Events in Basildon will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays and run for 50 minutes from noon, 13.15pm and other times.

They are aimed at giving animals the skills to make the right decisions when tempted.
