AN ORIENTEERING challenge aimed at helping children and families explore Wat Tyler Country Park is open this Easter.

British Orienteering with funding from Sport England have set up ‘Xplorer’, an educational outdoor activity aimed at encouraging children and families to enjoy the great outdoors.

It involves using a simple map to complete navigational challenges.

Stephen Andrews, Wat Tyler Country Park’s education coordinator, said: “This is a really good initiative that will help the younger generation discover the beauty of Wat Tyler Country Park in a fun and education way.

“This is the perfect Easter family activity.”

There are two challenges available. In the first challenge explorers are asked to find 15 markers which are shown on the map by a numbered circle. At each marker an animal is pictured with a fun fact. Explorers need to identify the animal.

The second challenge involves finding ten markers and identifying what is pictured. There is also a multiple choice question where explorers can learn an interesting fact.

The idea is for those taking part to compete against friends or family by doing the course in the fastest time. Alternatively families can find the markers at their own pace and enjoy exploring the park.

The sessions will be running on Friday, April 7, Tuesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 13 from 10.30am to 12pm.
