A CARE home has been rated good across the board following a successful inspection.

Priory House, on Kestrel Rise, Halstead, was inspected on December 12 last year by the Care Quality Commission and was rated as good in safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership in a report published last week.

On the day of the unannounced inspection, inspectors were told by a resident: “I feel safe, everyone is nice and kind. They help me.”

Inspectors found systems were in place to minimise the risk of abuse, staff knew how to recognise abuse and how to report concerns.

It was noted the service was fully staffed, meaning residents worked with staff who understand their needs and know them well.

Inspectors found staff supported people to maintain a healthy diet, with mealtimes being made social occasions. In terms of caring, the report stated there was a calm and pleasant atmosphere, and from people’s conversation it was clear they felt comfortable and relaxed.

Ayshea Hutchison, registered manager at Priory House, said: “We’re delighted to have maintained a good overall rating following our recent CQC inspection.

“I am sure we are all aware that the pay for frontline staff in social care is significantly lower than in other sectors and at a time when care is in crisis and facing continual cuts, we are extremely lucky to retain a dedicated and compassionate staff team who work tirelessly to ensure the people living at Priory House live a safe and fulfilled life.

"Jackie Hawkins, Deputy Manager, has been instrumental in achieving the rating and together with our innovative plans and fantastic team our goal for the future is to attain an outstanding rating.”
