A GENEROUS nine-year-old took it upon herself to raise thousands of pounds for her favourite animal charity.

Libby Robertson, who lives in Down Hall Road, Rayleigh with her family, hosted a charity ball in aid of the Dogs Trust rehoming centre, in Nevendon Road, Wickford.

With the help of her dad, Tony, and mum, Anita - who run an events planning businesses - the youngsters sold more than 100 tickets.

With the help of a raffle, she made 3,253.12 for the charity.

Mr Robertson said: “We are so proud of what Libby has achieved.

“My wife, Anita, and I run an events company, but Libby took it upon herself to raise money by holding an event for a cause that she is passionate about.

“She worked so hard to arrange it, and had over 100 people attend.

“She even approached local businesses and secured a whole host of auction and raffle prize donations.”

Activities on the night consisted of a champagne reception, a three-course meal, an auction, raffles and entertainment - in addition to the family screening a video they made at the Dogs Trust to show just why the charity is so close to their hearts.

Mrs Roberston added: “It all went really well and it was an absolutely amazing night - Libby even wants to do it again next year.

“Libby was over the moon, she was buzzing all night and we were so impressed that she even got up to give a speech and welcome everyone.

“She even walked around selling items to raise more money and everyone was so generous on the night and in donations for the night.”

Samantha Davis, supporter relations officer at Dogs Trust Basildon, said: “Our canine companions at Dogs Trust Basildon are so grateful to have Libby as a supporter and friend.

“This generous donation will go towards the care of up to 120 dogs on site at the Wickford-based rehoming centre. We would like give a massive thanks to all those who got involved and supported in some way, particularly the Robertson family for their sterling efforts in organising this superb event.”

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and cares for nearly 15,000 dogs each year.
