Music and ale lovers flocked to the end of Southend pier last weekend to mark the fourth Folk and Ale Festival.
Spread over two days and incorporating a real ale bar with a fine selection of locally brewed beers, the Fourth Spring Folk ‘n’ Ale Festival took place on Saturday and Sunday in the Royal Pavilion at the end of the pier.
The event was organised by Tony Prior of Anchor Folk Club on behalf of Southend Council to support this year’s Leigh Folk Festival, which takes place in the summer.
As well as talented solo performers like Dennis Homes and Pete Dunhill, the schedule saw some of Southend’s liveliest folk bands, including Arfur Do and the Toe Rags, Grand Reunion and Slow Loris. On Sunday, highlights included the Hoy Shanty Crew & Mainsail Haul.
