A DEVELOPER has unveiled plans to transform an off licence into a new eatery - prompting fears the a town is becoming inundated with restaurants.

Southend based SK Architects this week launched proposals to transform Clair Wines, in the Broadway, Leigh, into a restaurant or cafe.

If the proposals go ahead, an overhaul of the 64 sq ft shop space will see fresh decor, a souped-up kitchen and new toilets.

The planning bid has prompted concerns the town is becoming swarmed with places to eat.

Peter Wexham, Lib Dem councillor for Leigh, said: “A new cafe or restaurant is all very well, but there is only so much business that can go around.”
