YEAR 10 students had a taste of the world of work during twoweek placements around south Essex.

The Basildon Academies students had the opportunity to work with professionals in various industries including GKM Aerospace, BMW, Ford Motor Company, St Luke’s Hospice and Southend United Football Club.

Engineering student Jasmine Hunt has ambitions to have a career in the male dominated sector and went to GKM Aerospace in Basildon. The company’s production supervisor Martin Day said: “Jasmine was a pleasure to have on-board for two weeks, being our first female student to do work experience with us she adapted herself well to the machine shop and environment.

Many students, including Hanson Burgess, who went to BMW Fairfield Bodyshop, in Southend, have been offered potential apprenticeships after they finish school and Saturday jobs. Gary Smith, Head of Academy, said: “It’s great to see our pupils return from successful placements.

We’ve received so much positive feedback and the students have come out of the experience with a clearer idea of what they need to do to succeed.”
