SOUTHEND Council yesterday made its new Mayor in a traditional parade at the Civic Centre, and she announced her special charities.
Councillor Fay Evans told of of her pride and ambition to promote economic growth as she replaced councillor Judith McMahon in the ceremonial role.
Hundreds of council officials, residents, family members and friends have been invited to attend the council chamber at the Civic Centre in Victoria Avenue, Southend, to witness the official inauguration of Mrs Evans.
She said: “far too many families are affected by cancer.
“If I could wave a magic wand as Mayor then I would, but I will certainly do what I can through the charity fund to support those living through prostate or breast cancer.”
“I am immensely proud to be standing here as your Mayor and will do all I can to promote the great work that we do every day.”
Judith McMahon said: “ “At no point did holding the title of mayor become clearer when I laid a wreath at the cenotaph – a day I will never forget - it is the only time I have ever rehearsed for anything. I wanted to make sure it was all right and it was carried out in a dignified and appropriate way.
“I have tried to be genuine at all times – working at Porters, the most amazing civic house is another great memory.”
