A GO-KARTING track could be coming to Basildon.

Go Karting for Fun Limited, which operates under the name of TeamSport, has submitted a planning application for Unit Three of Festival Business Park.

The company operates 20 go-karting tracks around the country, including in Nottingham, Farnborough, Liverpool, Leeds, Reading, Brighton, and in various locations in London.

The site is currently vacant but was previously occupied by TNT, which used the site for shipping and distribution purposes.

The unit has been marketed since January 2016 by Glenny and JLL.

Planning documents reveal: “The proposals will secure a long-term and sustainable employment generating use for the site creating up to 40 new jobs which from experience will be filled by local people. This represents an uplift in jobs when compared to the previous occupier.

“The proposals will provide for a range of employment opportunities for the local community and will benefit the local economy, particularly through the provision of on-the-job training and jobs for young people.

“The limited alterations to the building would allow the use to revert to its existing use should a subsequent occupier require this. The proposals will provide additional leisure opportunities in the borough in an accessible and sustainable location in proximity to an existing Leisure Park.”

The proposals include a mezzanine at first floor level which will be hospitality and spectator viewing, including a snack bar area.

There will also be a function room for private parties.

The maintenance and repairs of the go-karts will be undertaken on the site.

The track would be open between 9am and 11pm seven days per week and only 16 people would be allowed to use the proposed track at a time.

Sessions must also be pre-booked.

The unit is next door to where trampoline park Gravity Force Basildon was situated. The park closed in August - just six months after it opened.
