STUDENTS learnt all about the airwaves and radio broadcasting during a masterclass.

As part of their Media work experience module on their Seevic College Pathways course, students learned all about the development of radio and broadcasting, and even got the chance to create some advertisements with Chelmsford Community Radio.

With the 100 year anniversary of the first broadcast in Chelmsford looming, this was a key time for the students to learn about the industry and gain essential employability skills such as communication and teamwork.

Michelle Durant from CCR said: “I love showing people how radio works and how they can get involved. It’s fun and something different, and can do wonders for their confidence.

“We are currently setting up training sessions at CCR for people of all different ages and abilities to learn more about radio – from the old to the young, those looking to get back or work or, in this case, those with Special Educational Needs.”

Providing a five-day provision for students, the college’s Pathways programme is designed for young people who would benefit from learning within a supported environment. From Animal Care and Health & Beauty, through to Performing Arts and Sport, the course helps students to improve their independent living skills, prepare for adulthood and develop the Functional Skills of English and Maths.
