RESIDENTS got the chance to see what their town has to offer at a Mayfest celebration.

Held in Basildon’s town square, 46 charity and community organisations attended. There were also retail stalls.

Everything from model railways and scuba diving, to community groups offering care and welfare of the young and the elderly was on offer.

Danny Lovey, from the Rotary Club of Basildon Concord was the main organiser of the event. He said: “Everyone seemed to enjoy the day, the weather was kind with only a few spots of rain.

“This is the second year we have run the event for which the main purpose is to give charities and community organisations an opportunity to showcase themselves to the people of the Basildon and create awareness of what goes on for the community.”

Guests were treated to entertainment from the Essex Army Cadet Band, and there was also a demonstration by the young people of Maru Karate Kai.

Basildon Operatic Society gave a rendition from the Fiddler on the Roof, which they will be performing at the Palace Theatre, in Westcliff.

The George Hurd Choir also entertained with some of its favourite songs, and the Tribal Unity American Style Belly Dancers gave a demonstration.
