A CARE home has been praised by the healthcare watchdog for its quality of care.

Gifford House Care Home, which looks after 58 elderly people in London Road, Bowers Gifford, was rated as “good” in how well led, safe, caring, responsive and effective it was.

The report by the Care Quality Commission reads: “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service support this practice.

“Staff supported people to maintain good health and wellbeing and enabled them to access other health and social care professionals when required.

“Staff knew people well and treated them with kindness and respect. People’s privacy and dignity was maintained.”

It continues that people were given personalised and responsive care to individual need and people had access to variety of activities and pastimes.

It also noted that there was a strong and effective manager in place who dealt pro-actively with concerns. The report added: “While there was a need to improve the checking of care plans, we found all other checks on the quality at the service were robust and led to improvements.”
