A SUMMER safety event in Southend has been postponed following the impact on police and other agencies after Manchester’s terror attack.

The Southend Stay Safe for Summer event was due to be held on Thursday in the High Street.

Another safety event, which was due to be held on June 7, in Promenade Park, Maldon, has also been postponed.

Police will advertise when the events will next take place.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “These two events have not been cancelled due to any potential threats but are due to the ongoing impact for agencies around the contingencies of the raised threat level.

“As a result, some agencies and emergency services may not be able to support this event and the decision has therefore been made to postpone them to a later date.

Once the new date has been arranged we will ensure it is circulated to you.

“Can I take this opportunity to remind you if you are attending any events over the next few days then you may wish to check the events are still taking place or to take note of any security advice issued.”
