A MUCH-loved Leigh businesswoman has died.

Lynn Tait, owner of the popular Lynn Tait Gallery in Old Leigh died on Thursday morning following a long battle with cancer.

Tributes were paid on social media to Mrs Tait who had a passion for vintage pictures of the town.

The Ros Southend Past in Photographs heritage Facebook site which Mrs Tait supported.

A message posted on the site said: “So sad to hear tonight of the passing of a lovely lady, Lynn Tait. A wonderfully kind and beautiful person both inside and out.

“A friend, a fellow local history enthusiast, and such a great supporter of all our fundraising ventures.

“ You will be missed by many, your memories live on in your wonderful photographs.”

Speaking on Friday, Rosalind Harman paid tribute to her friend. She said: “Lynn had a long battle with illness which kept going and coming back. I’ve known Lynn for five years and am very sad and tearful.

“She was a lovely lady and so supportive of our group. One of her favourite sayings was carpe diem. She was always counting her blessings .”

Leigh town councillor Caroline Parker also paid tribute to Mrs Tait.

She said: “I’m very sad to hear this. It’s very sad. She had the most unique gift shop and gallery in Leigh. It’s a fascinating shop.

“Lynn was such a prominent feature of the the Old Town and Leigh . She contributed so much to the character of leigh.

“Leigh needs more people like her.”
