Hundreds of superhero fans flocked to the Eastgate shopping centre in Basildon to see Batman and the Batmobile.

The iconic car, an exact replica from the 1989 film starring Michael Keaton, took centre stage at a Superheroes Fun Day organised by the Eastgate to entertain families during the school holidays.

Excited families queued to get a photo alongside Batman and the Batmobile on the day.

The fully working, roadworthy car comes complete with crime fighting gadgets including a flame thrower at the rear and hydraulic suspension, enabling the car to be lifted a further nine inches off the ground.

Batman was joined by his superhero stiltwalkers and his pals Spiderman, Optimus Prime and Iron Man.

Spiderman impressed shoppers with his flips and somersaults at the event.

Youngsters enjoyed making Batman belts, Iron Man masks, Wonder Woman headbands and Cat Woman figures at a free craft workshop.

The event was part of a two-day Batman Bonanza on Saturday.Bestselling comic artist James Parsons was also there with his Crazy Comic Club workshop.

Youngsters learnt how to draw superheroes and helped create a giant comic strip on the day.

Superhero stiltwalkers Wonder Woman and Batgirl also made appearances on the Saturday.
