PREPARATIONS are underway for a fun afternoon for a dog show and sponsored walk.

Paws in the Park, which is being held at Southend's Priory Park, from 1.30pm on Sunday, June 25 will be raising money for Southend Hospital’s ForWards Appeal to raise money for new equipment.

All varieties and breeds are welcome at the event.

Categories in the dog show include best disabled dog, waggiest tail, awesome old timer and the dog who looks most like his or her owner.

Last year’s event, the first of its kind, was a resounding success. More than 70 dogs and their owners braved the pouring rain to put their best paws forward and take part.

Organiser Malachy O’Sullivan is hoping for better weather and an even bigger turnout this year. There will be stalls selling cakes and doggy-related products, with more pitches still available to book.

He said: "It’s a nice afternoon out, it’s very sociable and friendly and it’s raising money for a great cause."

Registration is from 1pm, with the walk around the park starting at 1.30pm, followed by the dog show.

Entry is just £7 per dog, which includes entry to the sponsored walk and all classes.

Stalls cost £20 to book and spaces are still available.
