A CANVEY charity has been given a funding boost.

The Canvey MS Society was presented with a cheque for £414 by the Canvey branch of Halifax.

The bank wanted to donate funds to a local charity and decided to support the society when Canvey town councillor Peter May recommended them as a worthy cause.

Halifax customer advisor Vicky Shindler, 39, said: “We held a raffle to raise the money. We like to help our community. This group is really worthwhile.”

Joyce Unthank, who runs the MS Society group, said: “It’s been wonderful, we are really pleased.

“It will help us to keep above water and keep going. We are only a little group so every little helps.

“It’s really lovely and we are really thankful to them for thinking of us.”

Peter May, who recommended the charity, added: “It was a really nice presentation. It’s nice that local businesses are supporting local community groups. Halifax have been really generous.

“It was lovely they came down and met all the members and they made it really nice.”

The group meets every other Wednesday from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the War Memorial Hall. The next meeting is June 28.
