Police investigating a serious crash that left a young woman needing to have her leg amputated have arrested two people.

The crash took place in The Manorway, Corringham, at around 9.15pm on Wednesday, June 14 when a motorcyclist was hit by another bike at an unauthorised cruising event.

The young woman, believed to be in her 20s, was sedated at the scene before being rushed to hospital for specialist treatment.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy from Canvey on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop following an accident and a 29-year-old man from Canvey on suspicion of assisting an offender yesterday, Friday, June 16.

"Both remain in police custody for questioning.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify people in our recent CCTV appeal, including the rider, and we urge anyone with information to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or by emailing collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
