MORE than 2,000 people enjoyed a fun day raising money for a dog charity.

Dogs Trust organised Sunday’s event at Barleylands, in Billericay, and were thrilled with how well it went.

Organisers estimate that about £10,000 was raised.

As well as a rehoming parade, there was also dog agility and plenty of stalls, including one from the Echo.

Visitors could also enjoy a vintage car display.

Pete Wicks, from reality TV show the Only Way is Essex, judged the dog show, which included a number of categories suitable for every mutt.

Sam Davis, Dogs Trust Basildon supporter relations officer, was delighted with the turnout.

She added: “We are so grateful that so many people came out to support us and that those that did were responsible for ensuring their dogs took advantage of the numerous paddling pools we had to help keep them cool in the rising temperatures.

“Every penny raised will go directly to help the homeless hounds at Dogs Trust and we’re already starting to plan for next year’s Fun Day.”

The Dogs Trust, based in Wickford, cares for and helps rehome abandoned dogs from across the district. Visit dogstrust.org.uk for more information.
