A BEAUTY student from South Essex College tested her ability by entering the World Skills competition and was shocked to claim third place.

Jinny Ladphanna studies Level 2 Beauty at the college’s Southend Campus. She competed in the regional heats at East Kent College in the beauty category and came third in the competition.

Her task was to perform a nail art service, a mini facial and a day make-up look all within a certain time frame. She was judged against specific criteria by international judges.

The top eight scores across the country will then compete in the Nationals in November.

Jinny, 16, from Canvey, said: “I felt nervous but excited to compete. I practised as much as I could at home and in class, I made sure that all the skills I needed were performed as perfectly as I could.

“When my name was announced in third place, my mum, model, teachers, and I were shocked but very pleased.”
