A WOMAN was punched in the face as she waited in a queue of traffic in what police have described as a “road rage” attack.

The 44-year-old victim, who was driving a black Peugeot Expert van, was stationary in traffic in Hilton Road, Canvey, when she became involved in an altercation with the people inside another car.

A woman, who was the passenger in a black Vauxhall Astra, got out of the car and started shouting at the victim.

The male Vauxhall driver then also got out and punched her in the face.

A police spokesman said officers are investigating reports a woman was assaulted.

He added: “The man punched the victim in the temple but there were no visible injuries.”

Veteran Canvey councillor Ray Howard said: “I am very concerned to hear about this incident, people must not think that they can take the law into their own hands.

“These people have got to be caught and named and shamed.

“It’s totally unacceptable and this should not be allowed to happen.”

So far, no arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing into the attack, which happened at about 3.15pm last Friday.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact PC Darren Lahra at Rayleigh police station on 101.
