RYAN Leonard is expecting to stay at Southend United.

Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin has opted to reject offers from Sheffield United and Millwall for the energetic midfielder this summer.

And Leonard is now preparing for another season at Roots Hall.

“I expect to stay but I’m not sure what’s going on,” said the 25-year-old.

“There’s been a lot of speculation about a few different things but it’s all out of my hands.

“I’m a Southend player and as long as I’m wearing the shirt I’ll be doing all I can for the club just like I have for the last six years.

“I’m just concentrating on pre-season but if I do stay then I’ll give everything for the lads, the gaffer and the fans.”

Leonard - who has been Blues’ player of the year for the past two seasons - has been with the club since 2011, making 236 appearances.

And he is currently getting ready for the forthcoming campaign by training in Malaga with the Shrimpers.

“It’s nice to be back with the lads and to be getting going again,” said Leonard.

“Pre-season is always tough but when it’s in 30 degree heat it’s even tougher.

“But it needs to be done and it will get us in good shape for the season ahead.”
