STUDENTS took to the stage to rehearse for a horror comedy performance based on a popular film and stage show.

The youngsters from Woodlands School, in Woodlands Approach, Basildon came together for the show of Little Shop of Horrors at the school.

The rehearsals saw the students get into character and they were joined on stage by huge and unusual props as they practised their lines.

Little Shop of Horrors is an American rock musical horror comedy which has been a film and stage show in various forms, with remakes of the film and adaptations for the stage productions.

The show follows a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a vicious, raunchy plant that feeds on human blood.

The film was out as early as the Sixties, first being directed by Roger Corman. It was then released in 1968, directed by Frank Oz.

It is a film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical comedy of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman.

The 1986 film starred Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and Levi Stubbs as the voice of Audrey II. The film also featured special appearances by James Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest, and Bill Murray. It was produced by David Geffen through The Geffen Company and released by Warner Bros in December 1986.
