A BASILDON man has been jailed for a total of 12 weeks after he stole hundreds of pounds worth of children’s toys while he was subject to a suspended sentence.

Christopher Cook, of Town Square, Basildon, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court and admitted stealing toys worth £424,82 from Argos, in Pipps Hill Retail Park.

The court heard that he carried out the offence with Daniel Turner on Saturday, July 8.

When the theft was committed, he was subject to a two-year suspended sentence, which began on Tuesday, June 20, after he was convicted of three charges.

The court heard that the suspended sentence was imposed after he stole £300 worth of Xbox games belonging to Emma Davenport in Wickford on Saturday, April 15.

On Monday, May 22 he caused £1,000 worth of damage to a silver Mercedes belonging to Alex Lutkin in Wickford intending to destroy or damage the property.

Also on May 22 in Wickford, Cook caused Emma Davenport to fear that violence would be used against her.

For the theft of children’s toys, magistrates jailed him for eight weeks because he repeatedly disregarded court orders. The sentence also took into account his previous record of offending.

Davenport was also sent to prison for a further 12 weeks after his suspended sentence was re-invoked by the court.

Magistrates further ordered him to pay a £115 victim surcharge and collection order was made.
