A MAN was left lying unconscious in the middle of the road after a gang ran out of their car and attacked him and his friend.

The two victims, aged 25 and 26, were walking down the High Street, in Billericay, when they were set upon by the group.

The gang had pulled up in a black Range Rover before carrying out the assault and punching them to the floor, according to eye-witnesses.

One woman who as passing the scene at the time of the attack, which took place at 12.30am on Sunday, took to Facebook to warn other residents.

She said: “As I was walking through Billericay High Street, a black Range Rover stopped at the traffic lights near Subway.

“Three men got out and brutally assaulted two men, smashing their heads into their car and onto the kerb, leaving one of them unconscious in the middle of the road.

“After leaving the pubs and bars, please try to get home as soon as possible and avoid hanging around getting food and smoking on the High Street. Get lifts and taxis as planned.”

The victims are understood to be in stable conditions.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The victims were knocked to the floor and assaulted.

“The suspects then drove off in the direction of Stock.

“The victims were taken to hospital and treated for head injuries and bruising.”

The spokesman would not disclose how many men were in the group.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called to the High Street at about 12.45am to reports that a man had been injured.

“We sent a ambulance crew to the scene and treated him for a head injury and he was taken to Basildon Hospital for further treatment.

“Police also attended the scene.

“It does not look as if the man’s injuries were life-threatening as only one ambulance crew attended and there was no critical care involved.”
